This is a highly collectible doll from the 1940s made by Nancy Ann Storybook Dolls. The company was started by Nancy Ann Abbott with $125 while working 18 hrs a day in her apartment. She took a partner, Allan Les Rowland, who handled promotion/finance matters. Nancy Ann Dressed Dolls was inc. in 1937 in California. By 1942, the company was making a million dollars a year in gross income. In 1945, the name was changed to Nancy Ann Storybook Dolls. Before her death in 1964, the company was producing the largest volume of dolls in the nation, and Nancy Abbott was known as the “Doll Lady.”

The Storybook Doll Line was made from 1936-48. Over 125 diff. Bisque character dolls were created, based on nursery rhymes, but reduced to 77 due to some costume materials pricing/availability. The outfits were changed from year to year, often using different materials, so variations in clothing are often found.
