This is an ancient bronze oil lamp, Roman Byzantine era first century BCE to 5th century CE found in the Balklans. It depicts an effigy of a sheep head circa 6th century BCE and like the oil lamp these items were made up as an altar to the gods in almost every home you would have entered in ancient times. Religious practice was as normal and as commonplace back then as it is now for one to change their socks on The daily basis. At least we hope everybody changes their socks and underwear on a daily basis, but who am I to judge. I have made this display using what's called orangewood or Paducah and a curly Maple base and every artifact is made to be removed, cleaned and if one wants to, can be sent off for verification as well. There is a proprietary varnish made of all natural oils that has been used for thousands of years that will not seep in or hurt the artifacts that are on display. All pieces can be removed without any harm happening to any of them and be sold separately.
