These are very rustic, handmade, hand stitched, 3 layer, Kantha Blankets. They are made from old, used Sarees. There may be staining, holes, patches.... there are dangling threads that can be tucked in or trimmed off.
RUSTIC! Recycling! Zero waste! They take the usable pieces of the sarees, which are generally about 60" by 15' (yes, 15 feet long!), maybe patch where needed, sew pieces together, lay 3 layers together and hand stitch the entire thing! The ends are hand stitched together. Even with 3 layers, these are pretty light. You can often see the pattern of the middle layer through either side. They likely put the less attractive pieces on the inside but the occasional hole in an outer piece just give a tantalizing peek of the middle layer and the stitching is so close that a small hole in one layer in just part of the charm. Reversible! 2 quilts in one.
