Vintage black-and-white postcard featuring Lassen Peak in Lassen Volcanic National Park, California. The image, taken by noted photographer B.F. Loomis, shows the snow-covered slopes and distinct flow paths from the historic May 19, 1915 mudflow. This catastrophic event occurred when glowing lava in the 1914 crater melted a 40-foot-deep snowpack, sending a mudflow 18 miles down the mountain.
