There are supposed to be 2 AAA batteries installed by manufacturer and the battery pull tag is still attached, so am assuming they are still installed. Due to the age of the item, although new, the batteries could be expired and/or have leaked causing the leads to need to be cleaned and batteries replaced. This item was not tested.
