When the founder and owner of North State (with his wife Rebecca), died in 1959, Walter Owen continued to operate the pottery, changing the name to Pine State Pottery. A Pine State stamp, as on the piece up for auction was used on pieces until 1965, a "W. N. Owen Handmade" stamp was used from 1965 to 1970, and after 1970 Walter signed pieces in incised script
