From Bulgaria, attributed to the city of Troyan. Ages old folk pottery tradition with intricate patterns. Age is tough to know, but at least 30 yrs old based on the time it was acquired. This folk pottery can still be found in Bulgaria as the tradition lives on. The skill & artistry in the exterior design is just fabulous, each piece is one of a kind.
Striking pattern in warm earthy tones over a red terracotta clay. Diameter across outside is over 10", diameter inside crock is 7", height with lid is over 7".
This is made to be used, the lid even has a vent. Preheating crock in oven as it reaches desired temperature is recommended. Substantial weight, and thickness of construction; which can help it have insulative quality in keeping food hot, or cold. Beautiful crock with utilitarian value.
