Wehsener Dresden Hand Painted Cherubs Purple Luster & Gilt Sherbet Cup c. 1895
Absolutely stunning porcelain sherbet cup and saucer. The cup is decorated with a hand painted scene around the outside of the bowl of children and cherubs playing. The scene has gold raised beading along the top and bottom. The bottom of the bowl and the stem are purple luster with gold gilt leaf, scroll and scallop designs and white enameled beading. With gold floral gilding and beading along the inside of the lip and purple luster to the inside of the bowl. The saucer is decorated with gold flowers in the center over white. The rest of the saucer is purple luster with gold gilt beading, leaf designs, scallops, and white enameled beading. Marked on the bottom with a blue W inside a shield and Dresden underneath. This is an overglaze decorating mark used by Richard Wehsener in Dresden Germany around 1895.
