This is a spectacular Italian vermeil compact with a wonderful hand-painted scene of a romantic couple in period costumes. The young lady is being embraced by her young gentleman. This beautiful scene is on gold wash silver and bordered with rich light blue enameling. The front, sides and back are embossed in wonderful detail. The gold wash interior features an original framed beveled mirror. The powder case is marked 800, which is the European mark for Sterling Silver. This exquisite enamel compact shows some signs of tarnish, but it does not seem to be damaged, as I have been able to remove most of it with a tissue wrapped around my finger. I would recommend a professional cleaning. Aside from this, it is in super original vintage condition. It still has the original face powder inside. Size is about 2 3/4 by 2 1/8 inches.
