Dan Murphy was born in Chicago and created his first sculpture in 1976. While in law school at UNC, he switched direction to pursue a full time career in sculpture. He bends and manipulates the metal in order to create large, circular shapes and then mounts his sculptures onto blocks of acrylic or marble. All the equipment he uses to create his work he designed and created himself.
