DESCRIPTION

Roadrunner Sculpture Chimayo New Mexico. Carved pine wood, signed and dated on the underside.

c. 1969.

NOTES

José Mondragón was born on the fourth of August, the feast day of St. Dominic. Around his hometown of Cordova, he was known as "José Domingo" in honor of his patron saint. An accident in the 1950s forced Mondragón to give up farming, and he devoted his time instead to carving rosaries, animals, and santos (saints). Source: Smithsonian American Art Museum

Height 5.5 inch; Length 1.5 inch; Depth 9 inch

Condition: This carving is signed on the undersides of the base. Slight surface wear commensurate with age. Otherwise very nice.
