Exceptional hand carved gourd. The gourds are traditional ornaments that are produced in small quantities for Peruvian Artisans. Gourd carving is a tradition dating back to over a thousand years, a process that requires special skills and is time consuming.
It also has iconic images such as the "Inca Trilogy" with three (3) animals that were considered sacred by the Inca Culture: the cougar, the condor and the snake.
The cougar was a symbol of wisdom & strength. The Condor was considered a messenger of the gods, was an intercessor and guided the Hanan Pacha (world above). The snake symbolizes the world below or the world of the dead, the Ukhu Pacha. It represents when people leave the earthly world to join the world of spirits. (Dead's world).
