Here's information regarding the 1783 Mexico 2 Reale El Cazador shipwreck coin certified by NGC as genuine:
The El Cazador shipwreck
The El Cazador (Spanish for "The Hunter") was a Spanish brigantine that sank in the Gulf of Mexico in 1784.
It was carrying a large shipment of silver coins, primarily 8 Reales ("Pieces of Eight"), but also a smaller number of 4 and 2 Reales coins, from Veracruz, Mexico, to New Orleans, Louisiana.
The cargo was intended to stabilize the Spanish colonial economy in Louisiana, which was struggling with inflated paper currency.
Its sinking without a trace for over 200 years is believed by many historians to have been a significant factor leading to Spain eventually ceding Louisiana back to France, and subsequently the Louisiana Purchase by the United States, according to Thomas Numismatics.
The shipwreck was accidentally discovered by a fishing trawler in 1993, 300 feet below the surface of the Gulf of Mexico, about 50 miles from New Orleans.
