Beautiful vintage Navajo sand painting signed by Ernest Hunt and dated 7-3-76. This traditional style artwork is created with natural colored sands adhered to a board, depicting Monster Slayer, one of the Hero Twins of Navajo mythology.
The painting incorporates symbolic elements explained on the back in the artist’s own handwriting:
• Four directions & seasons – representing balance of earth and life cycles
• Four ages of life – infant, youth, middle age, old age
• Buffalo horns – strength and protection
• Eagle feathers – law and justice
• Rainbows – a bridge to the spirit world
